๐๐ก๏ธ According to the joint State of the Climate in Europe report from the World Meteorological Organization and #CopernicusClimate, in Europe, temperatures have warmed significantly during the industrial era. The 2022 annual average temperature for Europe was between the second and fourth highest on record. Europe as a whole also saw its warmest summer on record.
Yesterday, together with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Brussels , we hosted a high-level discussion covering findings from the 2022 European State of the Climate published by the #CopernicusClimate Change Service.
The #ESOTC 2022 portrayed the effects of the #climatecrisis and the need of an international cooperation and effective policy measure to tackle it.

๐ก๏ธ๐ง The European State of the Climate 2022 report reveals that Greenland experienced a sequence of atmospheric rivers in September 2022, that resulted in exceptional heat and rainfall, and record-breaking ice sheet melt.

๐ง๏ธโ๏ธ Less precipitation than average, with above-average temperatures and extreme heatwaves, led to widespread and prolonged drought across much of Europe, with socio-economic implications .

๐ก๏ธ๐ง Since the 1970s, loss of ice from the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets of over 11,000 km3 has caused sea level to rise by almost 3 cm.

โ๏ธโ๏ธ The European State of the Climate 2022 report shows that lack of snow contributed to drought conditions and glacier melt.
The Alps experienced a record loss of ice from glaciers equivalent to 5 cubic km of ice.
