Anthony #Albanese, says the federal government is “not in the position” to increase income support payments after inheriting “trillions of dollars of debt”.

Albanese told reporters today the government is doing all it can to drive productivity and will reassess income support payments down the track.

“The issue of people’s payments is one that the federal government is looking at.
We have a budget in a couple of weeks’ time, but we aren’t in a position, with the trillion dollars of debt that we inherited, to do everything within our first year to address the inadequacy of the former government.

No subverting expectations there then. The guilded halls remain stubborn & intransigent to any interests except their own. Events could arise to change hearts & minds. Though both hearts & minds are in short supply (within the various power structures), & youd've thought there'd been no shortage of events.

The smell of old books. Truly the best, most comforting thing. Like, I’ve just been reading depressing summaries of #COP27 #CopOut, feeling angry and desperate. Lie down in bed and pick up a nice old #book (1977 paperback of Virginia Woolf’s The Waves I found recently) and really things are ok.

COP27 is basically a Fossil Fuel trade show. A waste of time and money, an absolute failure for our Climate and Planet! 🤬
