@FLOX_advocate sounds like a 180 degrees flip from #FOSDEM2019, or? Or maybe Bradley is going to announce that given Microsoft and Google sponsorship of "the first ever annual" #CopyleftConf, it's cool again to be political in the software arena... 😕 I'm very curious to see what "strategies" he's coming up with tomorrow, besides the injuction for people to "work on their free time" for free software, as he shamelessly proposed in his FOSDEM keynote.

@handle @kavbojka I understand the concerns very well about this topic, and similar concerns were raised about #Copyleftconf but anyone who attended that saw how there was no pulling punches. Since these orgs need money to operate, maybe we should focus on how to keep influence out? Do you think think that we could do that and still take their money? As Bradley Kuhn put it, "Accepting donations is not an endorsement"

I do agree that legitimacy/visibility is more of a concern than actual influence on conference content, but I wasn't sure we were on the same line.

Having clarified that, the visibility issue is shared by a lot of FOSS conferences (including #FOSDEM). It deserves: a) broader conversation than #CopyleftConf, b) sustainable alternatives (donations? higher registration fees? etc).
