Nationalrat, Landtage: Wenn ÖVP und FPÖ Mehrheit haben, ist es die Aufgabe aller anderen auszuloten wer wie mit ÖVP regieren kann. Ohne geht ja dann rechnerisch nicht.

In Germany, there's been an unofficial ban on forming electoral coalitions or otherwise collaborating with the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) at the national level since the party won its first parliamentary seats in 2011. The same cannot be said of the state and local levels. But thus far, it's mostly been the center right Union parties (CDU/CSU) that have worked with AfD even when they weren't forced to do so under parliamentary rules. Now, local Social Democrats (SPD) in the (geographically central, but psycho-geographically eastern) town of Hildburghausn (pop. 11,000) are taking heat for collaborating with AfD and other far-right actors.

On Dec. 15, 17 of the town's 23 council members voted to initiate the process of organizing a recall election to oust sitting mayor Tilo Kummer. Kummer is a member of the left-wing party Die Linke and he won a surprise victory in the first round of voting in March 2020. However, his colleagues on the council have apparently turned on him over issues of "leadership style" (mdr).

The council needed a 2/3 majority to initiate the recall proceedings and was able to get it with the help of its three SPD councilmembers; the six Linke Party members were the only 'no' votes.

Other council members include five CDU members, five from AfD, and one member of an "independent voters' association" called Bündnis Zukunft Hildburghausen (BZH, Coalition for the Future of Hildburghausen), which is organized and led by well known neo-Nazi Tommy Frenck. A 2019 report issued by Germany's domestic intelligence agency labeled BZH the "leading right-wing extremist organization in the Hildburghausen district".

Immediately after the vote, SPD party chairman for the state of Thuringen declared that "Anyone who works with AfD and right-wing extremists to remove a democratically elected mayor has to ask themselves if that is commensurate with our party's fundamental antifascist values." Thus far, however, there have been no repercussions for the SPD councilmembers within the party.

The #CordonSanitaire (a term introduced in Belgium in the 1980s) - the refusal of one political party to cooperate w/ parties of the extr. right - is gone.
In EU (increased alignment betw. Weber's #EPP & Meloni's #ECR).
In IT (Meloni is in coalition w/ the center right).
In #Sweden (the extr. right gives external support to a center right gov.)
SWE will take over the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU in a few days, with a sovereignist agenda on migration, EU integration & climate.
