Here's the thing. They think they can shed the people who keep these systems running, and the systems won't break. But in time, they will. And who will fix it?

They know this! They don't care. Why?

Because:

a) Unlike elmo, they'll be gone with a golden parachute by the time this shit blows up.

b) As you point out, destroying their companies to achieve a political goal is something they're willing to do. This is NOT about business.
