@bluedragon If you want #FoundFamily #CosySF then books by Becky Chambers are recommended. If you want complex space setting with diverse characters then Shieldrunner Pirates trilogy by R E Stearns are good. If complex and space opera is OK, The Expanse series is very readable and has the advantage of a TV series.

Arkady Martine's A Memory Called Empire and A Desolation Called Peace are good and character centered but long.
