This is nuts. A neighbour in a brick-and-pebbledash 3-bed semi installed external insulation for something like €15k; it's crazy to fund people for €3k to change their fossil fuel heating when a better grant would make this heating unnecessary irishexaminer.com/news/arid-41

A heritage site in Port Hedland has been disturbed without permission
"An elder saw a large council lawn mower operating on Two Mile Ridge, home to multiple fossil footprints and rock engravings. Last year the council was fined almost $8,000 for illegally damaging a separate set of footprints at a nearby site at Pretty Pool.
Kariyarra Minjinburra elder Robert Dann said he saw a large council lawn mower operating on Two Mile Ridge last week, which he said caused damage to the rocks as well as "slashing" a preserved footprint. He said the footprint was estimated to be at least 25,000 years old. All this work has been done with this big slasher, chopping up the rocks and actually marking the ridge itself....The area was home to multiple footprints, as well as rock engravings, which were also threatened by the council's alleged actions."

There are "Development possibilities" in the and the :

" for 10,000 northern homes flagged in plan to ease housing crisis."

"The state’s auditor general released a report on Thursday that found the government in 2021/22 spent $1.4bn from a budget of $1.9bn in response to natural disasters. A further $1.1bn was then spent in the second half of 2022."

"The report also found 36 councils did not identify climate change or natural disasters as a strategic risk, despite 22 of them having at least one natural disaster in 2021/22.”

"Australia is a nation of dog lovers, and nearly half our households have one or more..
There have been five dog attacks in Queensland's south-east in the past week, and three of those injured were small children."
It's not about breed, it's the sheer quantity of and the lack of domestication.

@CatherineRussell2 Had to send this through. You think your councils like to shirk their jobs but ours like to economise. They are also enviromentalists. They like to keep the natural vegetation. 😂

How and where we build needs to change in the face of more extreme – the insurance industry can help. "An additional problem is that council consents for have been based on statistics of past climate events – set at a one-in-a-hundred or one-in-two-hundred year level. As we have recently seen, climate change makes these statistics dubious. All potential need to be clearly communicated to potential buyers though land information memorandum reports."

It's a good (or bad) time of year for potholes after winter freeze/thaw/downpours have caused more. So time for a pothole

Cambridgeshire Council paid £16,000 in 2021 for an injury caused by a pothole, and £96,000 in total pothole claims over 2 years

Council Tax goes up next week so now might be a good time to check your local councillors have been paying theirs.

A Derby councillor who had not paid council tax was named after a 10-month battle. The councillor owed £1,273.57 at the time of the request but has since paid their arrears.

If the bùrach of the SNP leadership race is too depressing, the antics of the Labour-Tory-Lib Dem coalition at Edinburgh Council may provide some light relief. That said, Labour voting for compulsory redundancies is no laughing matter.
