The same holds true for #CounterSocial (https://counter.social) who was active in the #Fediverse years ago but left over differences with many instance admins. They would be a top 10 instance if they federated.

@User47 #Mastodon is not for everyone, & that is fine. Believe it or not, the very first Mastodon account I created was on #CounterSocial (https://counter.social) back when it was still in the #Fediverse. I still maintain my premium account over there (@Darnell@counter.social) although you have to have an account on the site to follow it.

It took me years to return back to the Fediverse, & now I operate several Fediverse sites!

@therobburgessshow I keep it at Mastodon because Mastodon is good for why I joined Twitter in the first place: following the tech crowds.

#CounterSocial: seems a lot emptier than Mastodon and their Desktop UI look like several mobile feeds side by side. It's hard to look at.

#Tribel: I don't hear enough about them.

#Spoutible: I like the guy behind it Chris Bouzy. When I went on, it was empty but, I have heard before there is too much gatekeeping and it is like a hivemind in the same vein as Truth Social.

#PostNews: I don't hear a lot about that one but, I heard it had become primarily a news aggregator ran by bots. I just heard that and never tried to get on it.

#Blackplanet: It definitely isn't what it used to be and, there is limited engagement on posts.

All in all, I appreciate how many social media sites were built in response to Elon's takeover of #birdsite but, there can only be but so many to have engagement.

#TruthSocial ignored the Fediverse from the beginning.

I would not be surprised if these sites rejoined the Fediverse in the near future (by reactivating #ActivityPub) now that #Instagram’s new social network (called #Threads) is entering the Fediverse.

I believe #TruthSocial’s future is chained to #Trump winning the 2024 election against #Biden.

We are currently solving the polylemma (dilemma, but with multiple options) where #Mastodon, #Post, #HiveSocial, #BlueskySocial, #CounterSocial, #Tribel, and other microblogging platforms are competing for departing Twitter users looking for a suitable alternative.

There's no such thing as a good defederated #Mastodon fork.

We have #Gab, run by an open neo-nazi

We have #CounterSocial, a mess of a website that's years out of date and laughably insecure

We have #TruthSocial, a MAGA cesspit

All of these sites are complete echo chambers, all are absurdly censorious, and AFAIK all of them (#CoSo especially) demand money for features that are available on Mastodon for free.

So: Were we previously not federated with counter.social, but are now? Earlier, it didn't look like people in either place could communicate. Maybe we can now? This will also be a test of sorts.
