Bluegrass musician Doc Watson would have turned 100 yesterday. He was born on March 3rd, 1923 in an unincorporated county called Deep Gap, North Carolina, and he was blind from the age of 1. Such a legend, he has to be one of the best things to ever come from Southern culture. Love Bob Dylan and Dave Van Ronk and the like, but Doc Watson was one of the few truly authentic folk/bluegrass musicians making music in the early 60's.

Fred was a slide guitar master, and everybody knew it. He was immensely popular and played at festivals and clubs all over Gods green Earth. When the Rolling Stones cover one of your songs, you know you’re a bad ass bluesy motherfucker.

Blind Boy Fuller (1904-1941) was a master of raggy and piedmont blues guitar, best known today for his song "Truckin' My Blues Away", which gave us the phrase "Keep On Truckin'".
One of the most surprising things I uncovered while writing "A Meeting at The Crossroads: Robert Johnson and The Devil" was that Blind Boy Fuller had his own story about learning guitar via a diabolical deal at the crossroads.
