Doing #coursework today at a place called #Innovation house. I just got here and have been greeted by no less than three #robots asking me if I need help finding the meeting room.

I DO need help finding the #coffee machine, and I definitely need help finding out why I’m in “Innovation House” for a day of #programming and there are only 4 electrical outlets for all 20 of us???

Im thinking about coursework as assignments for degree assessment. Here I’m emphasising why practical real-world orientated coursework is so valuable to students, way beyond the grading process. Some courses hardly ever use coursework at all, or very rarely, still relying on exams. Stop doing that.

This afternoon, it was less quiet in the #Archive because my PhD student was in, carrying out an #ArchiveRummage. I managed to catalogue a small collection of #CourseWork by an #Engineering student who studied at the #RoyalTechnicalCollege in #Salford from 1945-1947. I love the neatness of the student's #handwriting and #diagrams.

It's #PhD application season so here's a question:
If you are in a #Philosophy PhD program and have a "fellowship year" or more than one, how does that work and what do you do during it?

(We do not, which means you're working as a TA or something the whole time).

For instance, some places have funding packages setup such that you wouldn't be required to work during the coursework period of the degree--this would surely yield a different relationship to #coursework!
