When did we collectively decide as a society that we were just going to all change the gender in songs that had gender even mentioned to make ourselves look... straighter? I'm confused. I know I did this, partly because I was in denial, partly because I didn't want questions and partly because I thought it's what I had to do, but I'm to a point now where I just... hate it. I was just mathing and realized this series has been done for 11-12 years. (I am both author and artist, SM Reine.)
This is still one of my favorite covers I've designed, though the techniques are clumsier than I do now? I feel the concept is very strong and that really carries it.
The style of art is called photomontage, though this is mixed media in the most abstract digital sense. Leaves are photoshop brushes; rain was a stretched noise filter; I painted water ripples (which I don't think are visible in this version...) and put blood on the apple, did lots of over-painting all over the thing. Not well, mind you, but I feel like I had the spirit. The model was photographed by Mranu

Originally the cover had more visible nudity. I was told that would get it bounced at the vendors (accurately - I have always been very VERY comfortable with nudity and really did not realize at the time that it's a no-go in corporate spaces, ever). That's why the snake ended up large enough to cover her breasts and the overall contrast was deepened to provide Privacy Shadow. The blood spatters also reduce the feeling of "I am looking at someone naked." It cracked me up to add "appropriateness" to an innocuous naked figure by using blood splatters. I was doing it before the Hannibal TV show, ladies and gentlemen.
