For context, my mom was going to be staying in a hotel. When my siblings and Dad bought her ticket here, they initially asked me to host, but I declined. Mostly due to the fact I wasn't willing to unmask indoors due to and also because my apartment doesn't have the space.

A few days before the conversation, my dad had mentioned wildfire smoke in their area, and I used thay conversation to offer (again) to send high quality masks for them to have in the house. He finally said yes. I also took that opportunity to inform him that there is a Covid surge right now (which he didn't know about). He was surprised but did at least acknowledge the risks and dangers. He even said "Your mom could wear one of the masks you send on the plane." Which felt like a lot of progress. I told him I would like it if my mom did wear a mask on the plane.

Hopefully we dodged a bullet, we're still potentially incubating the disease.

At the plane flight we took on 28 Apr with about 240 attending, there was about a 38.13% chance someone there had an active covid infection.

I used this tool last week to calculate the risk of someone with being at my workplace Xmas party. It was 33% but predicted to rise.
The Xmas party has now had to be relocated because the person who was originally going to host it at their home has got Covid 😞 I wish they'd just cancel it because I think putting all staff at risk of serious illness right before Christmas is a dumb move. They're not even advising us to wear masks or take a RAT beforehand!

Brilliant web site. Worth publicising I reckon. Admins please let me know if doing so isn't appropriate.

Found this tool and put in the info for my work Christmas party.

I will not be attending.

At the party to be held on 13 Dec with about 200 attending, there is about a 97.11% chance someone there will have an active infection. Most likely 4 people.

Just had covid (day 25). says 100% of Chch variant is BA4/BA5 (@ 20/11).

I think I’m very low risk for a reinfection in the next mth here in Chch having just been infected + seemingly undetectable traces of other variants.

So, I am pondering doing a couple of things I’ve haven’t done since Feb 2022 like go out for evening dinner, eating inside.

What do you think? Am I reading the risk right?

One tool for reducing is to carry around a small portable to see how safe an indoor environment is: the lower the C02, the better ventilated the space is. If the C02 gets above 600ppm to 700ppm, the COVID risk is elevated, so leave and go elsewhere. This is a small portable C02 monitor I've seen recommended by experts:
