COVID test recall issued by #Philadelphia Department of Public Health. They are a particular lot of Flowflex tests.
"If the lot number [on the box] reads 'COV2110012,' officials say to throw the tests away and pick up replacements."

I love my family - but I simply cannot trust them with my well being if they won't do something as simple as putting on a mask in public.
My mom is coming in 2 weeks. My family bought her a plane ticket as a surprise for her birthday. She's staying in a hotel, and I'm planning lots of outdoor activities. I am excited to see her but I don't know how to have the covid conversation with her when she won't take it seriously.
I want to ask her to do some #covidtests (3 rapids spaced 24 hrs apart) before she leaves and when she arrives. I want to ask her to test again when she lands. I want to send her high quality masks and request she wears them on the plane.
But I'm afraid it will lead to conflict.
I'm of course still going to - and I'm hoping my sister can help with the rapid tests. I'm crossing my fingers that me covering the cost of this all will encourage her.
Even if she agrees though, I have no reason to believe she will mask properly on the plane.
Of course this is why I will be #masking indoors when I'm with her and requesting she do the same.
It is just wild how much this has changed our relationship.
Anyone have a favorite online source of covid tests that isn't the Big Bezos Bonanza?

Well... We did it. We pulled the trigger on a Cue Health Covid tester and a pack of tests. Clinics in our insurance are only testing symptomatic cases. Free testing other places has gone away, and the NAAT testing at the local pharmacies is booked solid and more expensive, honestly. It is not going to be the cheapest thing in the world, but there is some peace of mind knowing that if we're exposed, we can get PCR quality testing at home with a 20 minute return time. And in the case of our local pharmacy at the Safeway, they're already wanting to sell proctored Cue tests anyways for more than we'll be paying for them. So why not go to the source. The thing that makes me grumpy is that if we as a nation really cared, the price of this stuff would be peanuts and it would be accessible to everybody. But nobody fucking gives a damn. Covid's over, dontchaknow. Assholes.

Dear friends and colleagues - #CovidTests are no longer covered by insurance starting May 11th.
If you normally stock up each month at your pharmacy, note the date! Also if you have tests at home that are '#expired', check the chart at this link first as many brands have #extended exp dates! https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/coronavirus-covid-19-and-medical-devices/home-otc-covid-19-diagnostic-tests#list

US medical process question: How do we acquire the free monthly #CovidTests that are supposed to be provided by insurance companies?
No one in my home qualified until last night, so I don't know who in the company to contact to ask.
Thanks US government for your free COVID test program that will send you 4 tests for your household regardless of size twice a year. NOW, with the added bonus of receiving tests that expired FIVE MONTHS AGO.
1/11/23 NBC news: Some newly mailed Covid tests from the government expire soon — even with extensions https://buff.ly/3vWFRAm
The FDA extended the shelf life of iHealth Covid tests by six months this summer, but many kits still expire in February, and some have already.
To find out when a Covid test really expires — factoring in the extension period — people can look up the manufacturer and test name on the FDA website.

How accurate are the current rapid #covidtests ? I’ve noticed a trend in my area: entire families get sick around the same time, all have the same symptoms, all take the same tests—but yet only one of them will get a positive result. This leaves me wondering if my negative result is really a negative.

My free covid tests arrived. Expiration date, next month, was briefly annoying. Reminder: Check for an extension & relabel them.

Popping back in to say that a friend in healthcare helped us think about it: false negatives happen with PCRs but a positive is a positive, like a pregnancy test. So the positive is the truth, and we should proceed accordingly. #covidTests #publicHealth
Two PCR COVID tests taken 60 minutes apart: 1st at CVS, negative, 2nd at hospital-based urgent care, positive. We get the positive result, start quarantining, get all 4 family members tested at CVS, get negative results, and THEN get the original negative result from the 1st test. Is it a false negative? Is CVS PCR unreliable? Is it user error? We’re all feeling a little defeated by public health. #covidTests #covid #publicHealth
