@GossiTheDog Yeah, this shit is bad, as #DTAG pulled the same crap and even canceled thousands if not millions of old "basic landline" contracts of seniors that paid their €20-ish + x in advance per month.

Also for no explicable reason those didn't get any good replacement option [i.e. a battery-buffered "Fixed Wireless Terminal" that is essentially a mobile phone but instead of regular buttons it's sized like a #CPE / #Router & has a connection for a regular landline phone to use with.

@privateger OFC if you just want to fumble around and only need more than 1GBaseT, you'd likely be sufficiently covered with a cheap unmanaged switch.

#UniFi only fills the needs for anyone who isn't satisfyable with a cheap #CPE like a #FritzBox or whatever, and for that they do rock that segment for SMEs and professional users.

Considering Cisco requires subscriptions to use their shit, #Ubiquiti actually sells good stuff.

It's just not what you want and/or need.

@lamp OFC that board is a good option in lieu of bad #CPE|s and rarely good options for a lot of people...

That being said a lot of good #Router OSes allow logstashing and thus dashboarding with something like #Grafana...

But I do think that a reconfigureable status dashboard - whether it's a physical display or website in LAN [propably both would be done the same way] - would be cool...

How incompetent are U.S. ISPs?

Cuz in #Germany they really need to not only assist customers and support the use of any #CPE / #Modem of their choice (§73, Section 3 Telco Law) https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/tkg_2021/__73.html and they've to literally publish all details needed to setup and build said devices with feature parity (§74 Section 1 Telco Law) https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/tkg_2021/__74.html

But maybe I've gotten used to my #Enterprise contract.

@IAmFox @lizziewriter and with #Boradband it's even more important to have #OpenAccess for customers.

In fact, §73 Section 3 of German Telco Law [ https://dejure.org/gesetze/TKG/73.html ] REQUIRES providers to allow customers to choose their #Modems [or whatever #CPE equivalent] with no discrimination and have to provide their clients with all the necessary parameters to do so when signing up.

The only exception are spectrum violations and damages caused by it being non-compliant with mandatory standards.

Une loi peut être votée puis non promulguée ou promulguée et #suspendue: le #CPE de 2006, qui créait un CDI spécial jeunes avec période d’essai de 2 ans, adopté avec 49.3 par Villepin puis promulguée et suspendue immédiatement + supprimée par un nouveau vote car extrême tension sociale et très forte contestation: blocages d’universités/lycées, jusqu’à 3 millions de manifestants dans la rue, violents heurts avec les FDO, opinion publique favorable aux manifestants.
