Quite a remarkable move, and something that’ll compete with the railway titans #UnionPacific (UP) and #BNSF. UP is already making moves to partner with #Ferromex , the largest freight railway company in Mexico, to streamline the transfer of cargo across the U.S.-Mexico border in order to compete with CPKC.

A Mexican friend was joking about a NAFTA #railway the other day. Well that’s actually a thing now!

In March 2021, Canadian Pacific (CP) announced it was planning to purchase Kansas City Southern (KCS) and merge the two under Canadian management. KCS accepted the deal in September 2021 and the two officially merged in April 2023 to form Canadian Pacific Kansas City Limited ( #CPKC ).

So I have some thoughts on a logo.

#CPKC, A historic merger, the first #railroad to link Mexico to Canada.

And they chose, for the logo, a beaver:
Over-sized rodent
Invasive
Spends life blocking natural flow of things
Grinds living things down to stumps

So I guess it, uh, tracks

Also today, #CPKC will break ground on their new US Operations Center. The company will be headquartered in #Calgary, with US operations here in #KansasCity.

This morning marks the culmination of the merger of #CanadianPacific and #KCSouthern #Railroads. A spike driving ceremony in #CPKC’s railyard here in #KansasCity will ceremonially mark the joining of the two railroads, making the company the only firm with rail lines in the US, #Canada and #Mexico.
