I had a lot of fun in #cqwwcw on Sunday. Due to family commitments I could only operate for 2.5 hours out of the 48 so I decided to get as many countries (DX by preference) as possible.
I had to break through pileups which was a learning experience for me but it went quite well. I snagged 7 new countries which I was very pleased with, along with a few dxpeditons.
Would have liked to play longer, but not every year your daughter is 21 😃
Definitely enjoyed this year's #cqwwcw although we ran into a number of problems. Downside:
- One linear damaged, had to use one lower power linear
- An IC-765ProIII is not a good contest radio compared to an IC-7610
- Relay for 160/80 vertical not working properly on 80m. Decided to not switch and stay on 80m
- Looooots of storm and rain during the WE (40h straight)
- Had to take a 30min break on Sunday due to too much lightning. Better safe than sorry

It was a blast! Thanks for all the QSOs from #Mauritius. 🇲🇺

More stories and pictures later due to ongoing antenna dismantle. WARC bands 12/17/30m will stay up as long as possible.
Summary WWDXCW contest:
544 QSO's (easy to do with so much activity). FTDX101D, 100W, slinky and Chameleon Ampas extended whip. 10, 15 & 20m only.
Interesting to see FT8 activity died out before CW 😃
Final score #cqwwcw
Thanks to the 10m Moxon antenna which worked amazingly well.
Made about 175 contacts on CQWW CW contest (~62000 points).
#cqwwcw is alive and well in the far north. I couldn’t join the team at KL7RA this year, but I certainly enjoy doing my bit from home handing out zone 1 to folks.
Skimmer experiment update: in 24 hours I’ve spotted around 36k transmissions from 159 countries. CPU utilisation is quite low - but there was a definite uptick as Europe came online for #cqwwcw - average is around 25% utilisation. I’m decoding around 2K CW spots every 30mins. I need to adjust frequency calibration; spots are about 100hz too high. I’m not skimming on 160m, 60m or 30m yet…I may setup a 2nd RX/VM tomorrow for the missing bands. Overall not bad from an indoor antenna in metro London
20m 2 element Vertical Array firing East<>West and Broadside north<>South - all the radials 😃#CQWWCW
Any other Radio Toots doing #CQWWCW this weekend?
Here 20m SO not sure on Assisted or not yet, LP to 2 ele switched verticals 🎉
Set up a new virtual machine to run WSPR, FT4, FT8 & CW skimmers over the weekend whilst #cqwwcw is on. Software stack is Win10; Skimmer Server(v1.6.0.145); CWSL_Tee; CWSL_Digi(v0.85); CWReporter(1.1); WSTJ-X(2.6.0rc4); HermesIntf (v21.7.18). Hardware is a Red Pitaya 122-16 & Wellgood loop (setup in a bedroom). The VM has 14 cores, 8Gb memory & 32Gb of disk - probably oversized…but the CW spot rate will be greater over the weekend. Next job is set up 2nd VM to talk to 2nd RX on Red Pitaya board.
