Images of autumn:

* An unknown mushroom growing between the roots of a tree
* A Crane Fly on a eucalyptus tree
* Ivy flowering in the afternoon sun
* The tight bud of a white Nerine just beginning to open in front of an Acer scolopendrifolium (yes, it really does go that colour in Autumn!)

I don't like horror films, books, or images as I'm well squeamish. So I find these shots disturbing, each in their own way, despite them being perfectly normal and unthreatening. I think they could each feature in a garden-based horror flick.

I hope never to take photos like these again...

Not sure who this is, possibly Geranomyia communis, but posting because I'd love for people to admire its large proboscis. That's not something you usually see on a crane fly. Per reports in the literature, members of the genus are fond of sipping nectar from tubular flowers in the Asteraceae.

A gray wall jumping snags a on the wall outside clinic this afternoon. I can appreciate that the scale of the drama is small, but this is a spider that hunts vertically. It has no wings and instead tethers itself to the wall with a line of web in case it loses its grasp. It must be speedy to catch the winged creatures that come to rest. It is a wild world even in the heart of a city!

Some crane flies mating. I'm not sure of the exact type of crane fly, I think these may make a living eating mosquitos as some of their nicknames include 'Mosquito Hawk' and 'Skeeter-eater'.

Another interesting thing I saw yesterday was this with a huge on its back.

This bright red spot was hard to miss, but still so tiny, that my 1:1 was hardly enough to capture it.
