Wow, Samsung packs their phones with a system partition that's *60GB* in size, and most of that is crapware. There's a reason I wouldn't buy a Samsung phone, and if I did, I'd root the thing and install a custom ROM first thing. Say what you want about iOS, Apple would never ship a phone stuffed to the gills with crapware like that.

It comes with a mobile app, which is just another #upselling #nagware and required for an initial wifi setup.

Thanks God we're all moving into driverless printing based on protocols, which makes #vendor #crapware irrelevant.

Decided to try Plex and see if it was any better for streaming files from my Synology to my TV.

Did a clean install of Plex Server from the official repo, never having installed it before. Clicked to set up an initial account, and got "Not authorized". No screen to let me set up the server, just "Not authorized". Did a full uninstall, tried again with the version manually downloaded from their web site. Logged in, same result. Uninstalled.

The device has Google's fingerprints all over it. I'm going to do everything I can (short of rooting it) to delete all the #crapware.

I'm guessing I'll need to find a privacy-minded app for contacts, export my contact info from my Google account, and find a way to import it. Not sure how that will play out...

I've worked in higher-ed technical support for 23+ years, so I have seen some genuinely squirrely software. With that said: Dragon Naturally Speaking is the most irksome piece of code I have EVER come across. Cantankerous, unpredictable, poorly documented, rarely updated, and yet a requirement for my job. It's infuriating.

I was expecting that Firefox would fail to follow the operating system locale and would use its own non-standard locale database.

What I wasn't expecting is that apparently Mozilla build Firefox binaries with only a single locale bundled in, so you can't switch locale at all -- you have to download a whole different binary.

Two people using the same computer and wanting different languages? Tough luck.

Chrome appears to be no better.

Imagine if you were trying to use a power saw or a vacuum cleaner and it stopped to run a commercial message by you about upcoming new features.

That's how commercial software is these days: frequently interfering with your capability to simply *use* it, as a tool to get something done, in the service of commercial messaging for the software vendor.

I, for one, do not welcome our new subscription-model overlords.

Why do the Raspberry Pi Foundation/Trading/"Software Engineers" insist on communicating with people exclusively through their moderated forums.
If they just did there jobs and made their software usable from the get go they wouldn't have so many problems. Why does it have to be developed in secret? "As we didn't want to ship bcm2710-rpi-zero-2-w.dts before the release of the product"

Its after the release of the product by several weaks now you fucks. Don't make me do hacky things or recompile the kernel/firmware to get advertised/basic features to work. Put it in the repository.
