Another nice record store run. A classic PJ Harvey album and of course another Elvis Costello find. Turns out this Rid of Me pressing is an 'unofficial pressing' but still sounds great and is a cool white marble so I'm happy enough.

A recent trip to the outerbanks, Ocrakoke, North Carolina resulted in a #CrateDigging find from the late British #soul singer Linda Lewis album Lark - still sealed!

Today, while out digging for #vinylrecords , I stumbled across a shoebox FULL of empty paper #japanese #45rpm sleeves.
I found them absolutely striking, and interesting art pieces. I offered the owner of the place some money for them, but he just told me to take them.
These two are my favorite of the bunch, particularly the alien girl one.
These are going in frames and going up on my studio wall. Aren’t they beautiful?

It's...fine? I keep hoping to hear something that recaptures the magic of their 2019 full-length I'm Not Getting Any Taller. That record was funny and irreverent and ironic. Last year's All You Need is Time didn't stick with me, seeming to have sanded down all the sharp edges to make something more radio-friendly but ultimately less moving. This feels like more in that same vein. It's catchy, but forgettable.

I don't know what the bluegrass equivalent of a banger is, but whatever it is, Molly Tuttle is delivering. New record is promising to be full of them.

The Hives are back! The last time they were around my garage rock listening was mostly consumed by the likes of Franz Ferdinand and the Vines, but even peripherally I recognized a band of infinite riffs. Here they are a decade on from Hate to Say I Told You So, proper geezers but hitting every bit as hard, and the riff is still invincible.

Yarns from the Chocolate Triangle is spacey, sample-heavy, bliss out with little in the way of either beats or staying power. Speaking as someone who (as I recently discovered) owns 16 Orb records already, I'm not sure I need this one.

Aussie post punk rockers Cable Ties just dropped a video for Crashing Through from their new record, All Her Plans. It's goofy and also good.

I haven't listened to the whole record yet but I am loving what I'm hearing so far. More melodic and accessible, perhaps, than previous efforts but hits that very groovy sweet spot of shouty harmonies. Very mid-period Sleater-Kinney if that's your jam.

Alright, I'm a fan of ATTA. The eponymous final track, 8, does approach a kind of half-apotheosis, a not complete rejection of the bleakness that precedes it, but a complementary hopefulness. Yes, the rainbow is burning, but it's beautiful as it goes.

...is that actually hope? I'm not sure.

#CrateDigging okay, starting off with ATTA, by Sigur Ros, their first proper studio record in several years. It begins in a dark place: plaintive, despondent. After a tentative opening, Blóðberg seems to strain at an overcoming that never comes; a failing. Skel tries again, with a room full of strings propelling the vocal lines up and out, but it too dies away unresolved. This is as bleak as I've heard the band; does the whole record stay this way?

I am behind on new music! Being oncall will do that. Maybe tonight I'll spend time listening. Still gotta get to that Sigur Ros record and Bully's new one, but now also the new Cable Ties record, that Orb record, new music from Hauschka, want to give that She record a full spin, and whatever else you clubbers are excited about. You maybe wanna mute #CrateDigging preemptively? 😁
