Sorry I've been missing for quite a while.
May 1 I lost my job. July 1, my #brother went into #hospice. I am now in #Oregon instead of #Louisiana as I take care of my brother.
He was only expected to live about a week, we are starting week 3, but he is getting weaker and weaker.
Anyway, I still need a real job. Still trying to survive. Trying to figure out how we are going to pay the $2000 for his #cremation.
If you can help, I would be grateful.

Funereal services are a scam.

It's been illegal since ca.1900 to bury bodies in the city, but cremation is also illegal in the city except for federal land (so the Presidio and Fort Mason/Funston, then?). The mortuaries here all seem to drive bodies over to Oakland/Emeryville for cremation. You can't take a body that died within the city out of it for cremation without a permit, but you can bring a body into the city and back out again (heavy traffic on the Richmond bridge, maybe?) Embalming is legal within the city, and since California legalized aquamation effective in 2020 I suppose that's legal too.

15,000+ die per week, creating huge amounts of carbon, and consuming huge amount of electrical and gas energy. I did a little piece on composting but think that the water route is less time consuming and potentially more practical.
