They are all Agaricus bisporus, in fact, just different ages: button mushrooms, which are white, are the toddlers; cremini mushrooms, which are brown, are the teenagers; and portobellos, which are brown and much larger versions of their younger selves, are the adults.

I just this mornng realized that I have been misspelling "cremini" (the mushrooms) for *years*. I thought it was "crimini" and kept wondering why it was flagged as misspelled. Duh.

OTOH, I console myself that I spell (and pronounce) "turmeric" correctly. (I see "tumeric" fairly often, which I think is a misspelling due to mispronunciation — which is probably the source of my own problem.)
