@vfrmedia @chris @Crispius @ProPublica Yeah, but don't you have to agree that IS THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM because with legal substances we do have measures in place to deal with it!

@drrjv @tolton Thank you!
You made sense of what’s been knocking around in my head…the Christian 2-tiered class system(worthy & not)...& crucially this:

“…the debate about is about exactly this. Access to abortion undermines the social order. That is why the of abortion is a issue (tho’ not mandated in the bible) & yet it is at the same time not a religious issue (non-xians must be subject to the same ).”

1930s Chinese female sociologists Zhou Shuzhao, Liu Qingyu & Xu Huifang theorized that social conditions rather than biology shaped the crimes of women, according to Stephanie Montgomery who reconstructs their intellectual contributions in a new Social Science History article doi.org/10.1017/ssh.2022.34

It's possible to see the criminalization of sex work as enclosure of productive commons in support of capitalism. I feel like people must already have thought about this and am hoping someone could recommend reading? The argument:

1. Everyone has a body and can potentially use it to make money directly through sex work. Bodies are a means of production available to every person without intermediation.

2. People who can support themselves directly may not choose to engage in wage labor. This threatens capitalism, which requires a steady supply of commoditized labor.

3. Capital's response is to cut off access to the means of production, an enclosure process. Liberated sex work, with no entree for the state through criminalization, threatens capitalism and is therefore illegal.

I'm not claiming that this is the sole reason sex work is criminalized. Criminalized sex work, like all aspects of capitalism, has many uses and so is highly overdetermined. There are many, many reasons for it.

It is the , & of under false pretenses of fighting (migrant) smuggling, and the criminalization of those who fight against these colonial borders that allow the very existence of this traffic.

@thatguyoverthere @Hyolobrika EXACTLY THAT IS THE PROBLEM!

IMHO the of is the major issue, and the fact that & mostly benefits reactionary agressors more.

Like: People get denied permits for having seeked mental healthcare BUT a neonazi illegally owning a submachine gun got fined AND explicitly not have that recorded so that they won't get red-flagged for any permit application in the future is just bad.

Several states seem to be considering criminalization of travel out of state to obtain abortion services.

One might ask whether that could open the door to criminalization of travel for other purposes when one state prohibits a certain act and another does not.

Consider the impact on Nevada were various states to criminalize travel out of the state for the purpose of gambling?

@Aknorals Jailing is peak of and basically denial of their to freedom unless charged.

It's a blatant disregard of Human Rights and aims at criminalization of those seeking shelter.

Fighting should be Big Tech’s top priority, activists say

Big Tech has nothing to do with it, if someone abuses your service there is nothing you can do. This is an universal rule, everything that can be abused will be abused.
