*Ähnlich in Bezug auf das moralische Dilemma. Ob der Start eines nuklearen Torpedos tatsächlich einen Atomkrieg eingeleitet hätte, wage ich zu bezweifeln, wenn es auch nicht völlig unmöglich gewesen wäre.

Nachlese zu #CrimsonTide: Ein erstaunlich selbstkritischer US-Militärfilm über ein echtes Dilemma, das auch über den Kalten Krieg hinaus von Bedeutung bleibt. Die Differenz, die hier zwischen den Figuren Hackmans und Washingtons zutage tritt, sollte man nicht unterschätzen; sowohl kulturell, intellektuell, als auch ethisch. Am Ende urteilt das Oberkommando, dass beide zugleich im Recht und im Unrecht waren. Die reale Konsequenz daraus, Zentralisierung der SLBM-Starts, wirkt hingegen nur halbgar.

Nach Sean Connery letzte Woche sind nun Gene Hackman, Denzel Washington und Viggo Mortensen dran in: #CrimsonTide, Regie Tony Scott, 1995. Hier stand ganz deutlich der Putsch 1991 Pate für das Szenario. (Der dt. Untertitel "in tiefster Gefahr" ist mal wieder zum Fremdschämen.)
