I'm new here. So far my handful of posts have been automatic links to my blog posts. But the Elephant Bot just suggested I introduce myself.
So: I'm Nicola, a writer (novels mostly), fighter, kitty wrangler, scholar, and queer crip. The most recent novel is SPEAR, a "queer Arthurian masterpiece for the modern age," and a new one, MENEWOOD, sequel to HILD, coming 3 October, 2023.

From Alice Wong (one of the many folks on twitter that I miss 😢):
"For Disability Pride Month I got to write this editorial for Publishers Weekly on disability representation in publishing with shout outs to Stephanie Foo, Keah Brown, Sami Schalk,
Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha, and Jules Sherred! "

As Disability Pride month starts, my 12 yo and I are starting to read Accidents of Nature by Harriet McBride. Does anyone have any other suggestions for YA books written by disabled authors?
Nicola Griffith: "Prizes for CripLit—or DisLit, or Disability Literature, or CIADlit; I don’t care which of these terms you use to talk about CripLit as long as you talk about it—are important because they acknowledge and privilege fiction about crips by crips. They privilege our own truth, lived experience over the regurgitated ableist crap we’ve been force-fed for generations." New post! Excerpt:
"This will be my third title as an author (I had two additional titles as a co-editor), and after going through production five times since 2016, you would think I would have become more laidback by now.
"And you would be wrong! (LOL, I am such a mess.)"

I can’t believe this is the year I get to share the first “season” of my new #SpaceOpera book series. Iris and the Crew Tear Through Space should be out in September! It has body celebration, an accessible ship, and PEW-PEW-PEW! Right now, it’s with the final sensitivity editor. I can’t wait to share all the things! This work matters so much to me as a disabled and autistic author! I’m so grateful to Renaissance press for taking it on! #CripLit #DisabledAuthors

The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang is sooooo freaking good and I am only on chapter 3! More disability and romance, please! This is really touching and I just love both characters. A male escort isn’t usually romances I enjoy, but this one is special

I’m pretty convinced that I’ve been submitting my short fiction to the wrong places. Because one story of mine got great feedback from betas, but it was yeeted a few times when submitted. Finally, I tried one more time by submitting to a disabled-led press and then was told, “We loved it!” So, I’m going to try submitting to editors who really understand disabled characters. 😊 #AmWriting #CripLit
