I'm exhausted, & I'm thinking about being an exhausted . This is a crash after a busy work week. I can tell I'm slow to discern importance and make decisions. Imagine if the stakes were higher.

Take care of yourselves. Develop a deputy.

Can we stop telling new folks that training is miserable?

I led a session yesterday & by the end: "Well, that wasn't as bad as they'd said," or "The content was kind of dry, but that was a fun class!"

Leaders set the tone for those coming up. Think on that.

New term: "vicarious learning"

My own and research has looked at (generally) in collective settings as a means of building a shared system understanding.

The old cliche "leaders are learners" applies nicely in discussions.

“As we stand on the edge of a low-growth and low-cooperation era, tougher trade-offs risk eroding climate action, human development and future resilience.”

Lots to digest here. How do some of these risks impact our 'traditional' efforts?

Quick, informative overview of The Conference Board's 2023 outlook on . Great to see alongside crisis management.

The author borrows heavily from Boin and colleagues on the "five things," but I will say the adage that is about prepareness. & about adaptability is a good one.

They say model the way. They also say leaders recognize mistakes as learning opportunities.

In light of recent crises (Southwest Air, NFL/ESPN response to the Hamlin injury), I'm reflecting on these two concepts.

How do leaders admit mistakes while leading in a crisis? What type of example do crisis leaders set in how to handle admitting to a mistake?

Say why the mistake was made. Don't blame. Offer a solution for moving forward.

There will be many lessons to come from this incident, but an initial one is to expect calls for accountability to come early and often.

This article is a really interesting way to think about that trade-off, linking fear as an applicable way, during crisis, to frame . “…a crucial element in the act of persuasion pertains to the speaker`s ability to name reality in a credible way.”

There are nuances (dare I say, "quirks"?) for EM per the magnitude of potential incidents, yet core skills remain and are deployed in much the same way as in corporate crisis management.
