Started to watch Satan's Slaves last night on Shudder but then a freak storm came through & we lost WiFi.
Thank the Dark Lord for physical media, we watched Cat People instead and will finish Slaves tonight.

Good news for Hal Hartley fans. All of his feature films, and pretty much all of his shorts, are going to be on the Criterion Channel soon.

Why does the #Criterion release of Days of Heaven look like goddamn Liquid Sky? My eyes!

Oh wow, Kore-Eda’s After Life is on the #criterion channel. It’s achingly lovely, and my absolute favorite film. I’ve watched it just twice, once on release in 1998, and again about 20 years later. The last time destroyed me in the best possible way. So the question is, watch it again and risk it losing its emotional power, or let it live on in memory?
My review of Being There. It was pretty funny and not as problematic as I expected after the first 5 mins.

Glad I watched Albert Brooks' Modern Romance before it left the #Criterion Channel. The pacing and story arc of the film are both so different to what we see today. For example, the scene where the regretful protagonist in a romantic comedy gets too drunk or high is in the first 10 minutes of the film!
“One person who decidedly did not like Andrei Tarkovsky’s film SOLARIS was Stanislaw Lem, the author of the source novel. The film explores completely different themes from Lem’s philosophically oriented science fiction. This excerpt from a Polish television documentary addresses Lem’s attempts to come to a compromise with the intransigent director.”

"After Hours" getting a #Criterion release!! I only discovered this movie five years ago or so and it was one of the rare movies that, when it finished, I *started it over again*. I will never not be in the mood to watch this. https://www.avclub.com/after-hours-movie-martin-scorsese-retrospective-1850624511
Just wrapped "Green for Danger" on #criterion—never seen it, and it's quite good—and the best part to me was Alastair Sim as the leering, ghoulish cop. Not sure how much of that is just carryover to me from his Scrooge! #movies #film
Honestly, I would have given the songs on the Electric Dreams soundtrack a second pass.

SUSANNA HOFFS CRITERION COLLECTION PICKS
Yes, THAT Susanna Hoffs, visits the Criterion offices and picks out some of her favorite films.
I never knew about this segment #Criterion put out with different performers till I saw the one with Michael Shannon and now I’m obsessed with watching them all.

Criterion makes little collections for you so you can follow a theme, actor, or director. I started the "Starring Jennifer Jason Leigh" collection with the movie "Margo at the Wedding" (which also features Nicole Kidman). Were it not for this little organization around an actor, I may have missed it. Who doesn't love Jennifer Jason Leigh.

What is this #Criterion arrogance not offering subtitles for all dialogue?!?!!!
#FilMastodons, should I watch the theatrical of #DirectorsCut (#Criterion) of #PeterWeir's Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975)?
Note that so far I have not enjoyed a single one of his movies because they're all so sappy and “smart”…

I decided to subscribe to the Criterion Channel today and am watching Something Wild (1961). Carroll Baker portrays a young woman traumatized after a sexual assault. I just started it and so I'm staying away from spoilers. I like it so far and I look forward to watching more on Criterion. I wanted to subscribe mainly for indie and art house films as well as older films like the one I'm watching. I also picked up a small bottle of prosecco today which is chilling, so yay. #AmWatching #criterion
Merged a nice optimization to #rusqlite_migration earlier today: https://asciinema.org/a/592133
On big migration sets, gain about 8% and 4% on smaller sets! More details in the description of the asciinema.

And finally, to celebrate its new #Criterion relase, Craig Lindsey looks at how the #Texas tower shooting influenced Peter Bogdanovich's cult classic 'Targests'.
