Nicely frames critical inquiry of imagemaking models around questions of 'unmaking' -- unmaking ecosystems, unmaking (training) data, and unmaking output. Might be good for advanced undergrads who aren't afraid of a bit of theory (brief mentions of Derrida on archives, Benjamin's "Work of art...").

Happy to announce the publication in #Lexia of my paper on the #semiotics of #generative-literature on the example of #GPT-3 and the reception of the synthetically generated "op-ed" published in the Guardian 09/2020. Lotman’s concept of the #text and its #sociocommunicative functions offers a framework for understanding how and why the synthetic output may be interpreted as a human-written text.

Yes! This is exactly what I mean that offering the service of “apocalypse prevention” discursively justifies and legitimizes the ignorance of all current, emerging societal problems that AI systems generate, such as large language models (#LLM) amplifying #bias #disinformation and #hiddenlabour, to name a few.
