I am doing a shawl with a beautiful pattern, but it takes forever and the yarn is very thin so quite hard to work with. So I am considering whether it would be worth to have light-up hooks so that I can work in front of the TV?

A new project tonight for a bit of variety - I bought a pack of yarn from Aldi reduced to £2.99; I love the colours and wanted something that would work up quickly.
So a shawl seemed a good way of meeting both criteria.

I've returned to a past project to push it forward
Star shawl/lap blanket, made from recycled yarn (King Cole Epping Forest) and repurposed yarn from a jumper dress which Young'un decided she didn't want (the darker gold)
It's a bit repetitive to work on, inevitably, but the effect is pretty good

Can anyone recommend what is actually useful to a crochet beginner? I have ADHD and tend to abandon new hobbies, starting small is probably best. Do I really need anything besides a needle or two and yarn? And which style of needle would you recommend?
