Hmmm I voted for #crocoite because it doesn't really have any uses other than being lead chromate and looking like a cool chaotic spikyboi. (I mean. Lead chromate is pretty chaotic. Especially since its chrome mineral is apparently specifically hexavalent chromium - that's some nasty stuff!!) #MinCup23
Both #crocoite and #dioptase are gorgeous but not very lickable. #Dioptase is super fragile. I'm not sure yet, but I am ever so slightly more easily drawn to dioptase, perhaps it's my appreciation of green gemstones. I will decide closer to the deadline. #mincup23

I will vote for #crocoite this time, because I can combine two of my favorite hobbies: minerals and cooking - I love paella and a good paella needs saffron. #MinCup23
Unfortunately, #crocoite is on the #DoNotLick list...

Already match number 5 in this year's #MinCup23: it's #dioptase vs. #crocoite - dark green copper silicate against vibrant red lead chromate.
#Dioptase is called copper emerald (Kupfersmaragd) in Germany, while #crocoite refers to the resemblance to saffron from the crocus plant.

Oop I gotta go do some reading and thinking before voting this round because I can't remember if #dioptase is largely a pretty and low chaos rock, but #crocoite is lead heavy which automagically makes it chaotic.
Also I should share my tiny but pretty dioptase specimen with y'all. Bonus funsies. #MinCup23
@vickyveritas noooooo! Two of my favorite crystals! I failed to find any #Crocoite I could afford in the last six years of hunting for it at Tucson show. I do have a fine chunky piece of #Diopside though, purchased directly from a family mining it, I think in Ethiopia.
Crocoite is the mineral emblem of Tasmania. This particular chunk of lead chromate (PbCrO4) crystals is my Patenkind, Shaun. We've been friends since 2016 when I became Shaun's patron.
In a neat coincidence, crocoite is chemically identical to the pigment chrome yellow, which is the colour formerly used for the trains of the U-Bahn in Berlin, the city which both Shaun and I call home.

Santa has arrived in my house, and with a distinctly apt #CriticalMinerals theme this year I might add! Thank you to my #secretsanta (not on birdapp) for thoroughly spoiling me... I received some #crocoite from Zeehan in Tassie, a wee mantle #xenolith from Mount Elephant in Victoria, and these amazing fragments from the #CampoDelCielo meteorite!!! 🥰
Thank you to the @SS_RockExchange for organising the best Secret Santa around for another year!
