#ITE (the Institute of Transportation Engineers) began recommending #RTOR (right turn on red) as a fuel saving measure in 1986. ITE rescinded that guidance in September 2019, writing:

"The existing [recommendation] fails to provide a sufficiently robust analysis of the impacts, especially with regards to the potential impacts on the safety of #pedestrians using #crosswalks."

This #chokePoint is how you combine #trafficCalming and safer #crosswalks, with more cost-effective #EdgeLaneRoads. Instead of #YellowCenterlines forcing people on bikes to "share" with cars, two-way car traffic shares one center lane. The #AdvisoryBikeLanes can be used for two drivers to pass each other, but by default, those spaces are dedicated to people walking and biking. (SW 45th, #SWTFpdx, so many streets need this, not blinking lights and victim-blaming.)

One of the most annoying things about working at a #college is that #CollegeStudents don't know how to be proper #pedestrians. There's so many #crosswalks available to them and still they decide to run out into traffic willy-nilly as if cars magically stop on a dime.

Yes, proper speed limits are followed, but it's difficult to predict where these students will pop out of. And some of them just so much faith on people's braking abilities.

@Ny_jc_gal_76 One of the reasons I vote absentee instead of going over there to Queens Borough Hall (my early voting location) is because #QueensBlvd is so sketchy over there. At the very least, need to extend the #QueensBlvdPBL, improve the medians, fix the stupid diagonal #crosswalks, and fix the signals.
