I hate to admit it but the Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 3 #Chromebook detachable/tablet hybrid is hands down the best travel device I've ever owned. The built-in #debian environment gives me full access to all my development tools while traveling, it's ARM so all the Android apps I use run flawlessly, and battery life is incredible. Also, #ChromeOS has gotten surprisingly good. 😬

Look at this open source tech #Google made so all the #crostini interop works! It's impressive.

@LinuxClaude most likely can in the #Crostini #Linux container on #ChromeOS. I install a number of GUI apps including PHPStorm/VSCode/Steam in my ChromeOS Linux environment.

@chris @bryanruby yeah, it's just the built-in #crostini Linux environment you can turn on. It used #LXD under-the-hood. The built-in #ChromeOS tools let you easily backup & restore the LXD container. My container is running #Debian 11(bullseye).

I'd like to connect to @benjedwards 's The Cave BBS (and others) from ChromeOS within the linux (crostini) terminal. However, it appears I lack the proper fonts/codepage as shown in the first screenshot. The only thing I've found that works is running through the following application: https://github.com/rvalles/pybbsterm

That does give me what I want (as seen from the second screenshot)....but it would be great if I didn't need to depend on a python application and things "just worked". Does anyone have experience with displaying ansi art via telnet from the linux terminal in ChromeOS?

I uses #Emacs in #ArchLinux via #Crostini on a #Chromebook (Pixelbook 2017).

I love it. Light and thin. Fan-less and silent. Long battery life. Bluetooth just works.

6th time - #Crostini is running a #Debian Bullseye - it thinks - but it's the Bookworm upgrade, so it's running #Mesa 22 - so errors yet *fingers crossed*

Okay, 5th time is the charme or something like this:
"#MESA 22.3 working in #Crostini" a short guide:
add the latest #ubuntu image in #lxc.
install the cros-ui stuff, or lxc will kill it.
fix your user and rename the hostname and the container to #penguin.
now get into your linux terminal.
add the kisak ppa for mesa.
disable the cros-sources.
luck out in installing #steam with all it's i386 dependencies.

Just a quick #crostini note:
It's crucial to
"hostnamectl set-hostname penguin"
in the container you want to integrate, or else your native terminal won't start

@tedcurran @douglevin Those #Chromebooks could run free and open source audio apps if #crostini is enabled but I'm almost certain your son's school keeps that disabled. :/

@davidfield That's interesting that even #Fedora feels slow on a powerful laptop like a Dell XPS compared to #ChromeOSFlex. Not surprising though. #Chrome might be a memory hog but it does provide a very fast and smooth UI in #ChromeOS.

Out of curiosity, were you not able to run these scripts in a #Ubuntu or #Fedora container using #Crostini?

I feel you though, after a long time using Ubuntu I got sick of the slowness and constant errors. ChromeOS always worked well for me.

I’m having too much fun creating charcuterie and crostini boards 😂 they are delicious and fun, and if I do say so, kinda pretty.
We are just having a small family dinner with the 5 of us. No one we invited was able to come (and we wouldn’t have wanted them on these roads anyway, still a lot of ice). I hope, wherever you are and however you do or do not celebrate your preferred holiday, you are safe and happy and know that you are loved.
