I only do religion if there's a secular seasonal folk custom attached, but I'm reliably informed today is St Guthlac's day so, in the spirit of the Kipper family of East Anglia, I offer you a new lyric based on the saint's legend. All it needs now is a tune and a begging custom conveniently recalled from childhood by an elderly local (after being bribed with a few pints).
St Guthlac's Day Fauxk Song, collected in Herefordshire in 2023
We are St Guthlac's knights, and strong,
Hate British pandemonium,
We vanquish archaeology,
And drink bog water for our tea.
From Peakirk into Croyland go
Just like St Pega to her bro.
She placed his body in a vault,
Made miracles with a pinch of salt.
But all we need's a drop of malt,
Yes, all we need's a drop of malt.

A monochrome real photographic postcard showing a view from about 1910 of the unique 14th century triangular Trinity Bridge at Crowland in Lincolnshire. Wooden bridges had stood on the same spot since at least 716. #Crowland #MedievalBridges
