Anti-discrimination #legislation to add protections for natural hair, “traits historically associated with race” into #Michigan’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act is heading to the governor’s desk after passing the Legislature Thursday. The bill would implement a policy known as the “Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair Act,” or “#CROWNAct,” for short.

Is there a good place to go for compiled data regarding (declared and official) votes? I want to keep tabs on my representatives in Congress. For example, how would each senator have voted on the #CROWNAct were it not for the filibuster?

As we consider the CROWN Act again, note that it would be bad enough to discriminate based on cultural hair styles. Our #Senate has chosen to allow maltreatment based on how Black hair IS. Every Senator that remained quiet the other day or spoke out against the #CrownAct makes me feel second-hand embarrassment. Shameful. The #CrownAct is a big deal. Easy, too. But our US #Senate won’t accomplish even this until we up the pressure.
ICYMI, at least 40 senators just decided to allow discrimination against Black people at work. At least 40% want to make our Black siblings do more work and pursue a white model of presentation.

It was a mistake, IMO, for Democrats in Congress to treat the #EqualityAct and #CROWNAct as separate bills. They should have folded both into a single #CivilRightsAct.
