Here, Mr. Crow is not willing to share the two peanuts I left. It happens.
Don't worry, she got some after I took the picture.
This morning was fun but a bit frustrating. Mr. Crow seemed willing to come closer to me, but we were constantly disturbed, so he flew to trees and back the street constantly and that was not the right condition for this.

He was using the exact same call that crows use when they're calling family and don't see them. Am I family? Or is the call for friends too? I assume I'm only in friend territory, right? Anyway, they both had arrived and were waiting for me to do my thing, and left peanuts on the sidewalk (and no mini-walk for me, I took a longer one later).

update.
I pulled out the car on the curb this morning (usually the signal for the crows to come if they're nearby). I put the kids' schoolbags in the car and looked up (the usual routine). No . The kids were not ready yet, so I decided to go for a mini-two-minute walk in the park when I suddenly heard a loud cawing above me. Mr. Crow was literally calling me!

Most mornings the last few weeks have awakened to the sound of distant resonant croaking - one or two patrolling the sky at dawn. Almost never later in the day. My head canon (which might even be true) is that they are taking advantage of early morning quiet to come down from the hills and check out the near suburbs unharassed, before zillions of rambunctious come streaming out of their downtown night roost to take over the landscape.

It is the molting season for the in (and elsewhere) at the moment.

Feathers in bad shape are more and more common in the street.

By the way, I heard that you should not pick up such feathers. Crows remain quite possessive of them and won't like it if you do. I'm not sure if it's true or not, but I won't take the risk.
However, in the past, I did pick up a feather from the crows I was going to befriend two years later and there was no consequence, so I'm not sure.

It only been a week and a half and I already want to quit my job. However I don't care, it paids the bills and keep a roof over our heads. It does sadden my a little that I don't get to more sketching or painting (again job suck the engery)

Here is something I've been working on, is a working in progress/study. Hope you enjoy and have an awesome night

As it's been low tide in the morning, and we're near the equinox (so tides are bigger), I assume that they've been feasting seafood in the estuary in the mornings.

However, this morning, they were here, so time to resume old habits.

(for a second, I thought it was a large-billed crow, but no, it was Mr. Crow, I guess he's molting so much that he looks skinnier and his beak looks bigger?)

update.

Remember how this summer, as it's been too hot for everyone to hang out in the park (and to help them find the water I left in my yard) I left the usual peanuts in a small plastic plate in my yard and about two weeks ago, the plate was missing when I got home and I found it in the park near where I usually feed them?

I've been very lazy lately about social media... but, nevermind, here's Yen introducing me to her kiddo the first time a month ago! I believe something happened and the first attempt failed, and Yen vanished again for a certain amount of time, then returned one day, and some time later both parents showed up with this small one, a bit late for the usual breeding season, but aawww, so cute!

It's a percussive day for the in my yard. The American are mostly bill-clacking and making a laughing sort of chatter. Anna's Hummingbirds are having dogfights over the bottle brush tree, yelling at each other with their ch ch ch calls. My hands are too sore to do much gardening today but maybe I can go sit out there and find out what the birds are talking about. I mean, besides the , who are obviously just trash-talking each other.

"The wizard will read your fortune now"

A different photo of that crow, now better processed from Raw in Lightroom and showing its nictitating membrane.

Some of the evening crows. It's through a closed window because I'm not quick enough, but you can hear them with the sound up.
