We went for a morning walk down to the harbour in our village and it's already 25°c here. I soon cooled us down down by slipping into the village shop for a couple of ice lollies for the walk back home. 🌞 #Scotland #CrudenBay

Just got home and noticed Open Reach have started installing large telegraph poles around our end of the village which to me only means one thing. The old analogue telephone / VDSL ( Aluminium ) cables all run under ground here into the houses so this can only mean Fibre to premises via telegraph poles !

Many castles are spooky: only Slains Castle, standing above cliffs near Cruden Bay in Aberdeenshire, inspired Bram Stoker's Dracula after a stay at the castle. I've only ever seen one owl in the wild over the years and these are the best two photos I managed to get of it, specifically a Short-Eared Owl. I didn't spot it until it was too late and it was heading off in the opposite direction to me and eventually disappeared out of sight. I hung around for another hour or so but never saw it again.

Gran was part of the search team that later found Scott's body.
There is a granite monument to Gran's flight situated on the hill above the beach.
The name Cruden comes from the Gaelic name "Croch Dain" which translated means slaughter of Danes. The slaughter was a battle between King Malcolm II of Scots and King Cnut of Denmark. Cnut later became King of England and is known in English as Canute. I wonder if Gran knew what happened to his Viking ancestors.
