Over the past ten years, Dr. Palanisami has expanded his research focus to include contaminant transformation products (CTPs). These CTPs, which are often more bioavailable and toxic than the parent chemicals, are not well understood. His research involves tracking these transformation products through the environment and their impact on human health using in vitro and in vivo tools. Recently, his research has focused on the risk assessment and remediation of emerging contaminants such as microplastics and Perfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS).
