This week I've traded my usual icey river + train view for an urban equivalent!

Not all visible in this shot but from here I can see 2 traditional road bridges, 2 flyover style concrete road bridges, a #CTrain flyover and a pedestrian only bridge.

This podcast is a wonderful deep dive into why one car-centric city is struggling to implement meaningful improvements to its #transit network.

Many lessons for other cities here, not least the challenge of getting and retaining budget for operational expenses. It's not mentioned in the podcast, but while the city's operations have stagnated (poor quality bus services and even low offpeak frequency on the #CTrain) money is still being poured into big infra for another Ctrain line.

I'm thankful that the funding model of Australian #publictransport isn't as contingent on farebox revenue so we could largely avoid the mistake of heavily cutting services during the pandemic. I don't think #yyc is the only city in North America regretting the driver layoffs now!

#Calgary 's MAX bus might be the world record holder for the lowest bar to consider a bus as #BRT.

15 minutes in peak and 30 minutes off peak is wayyy too infrequent to encourage people to interchange for #Ctrain or local bus routes. Someone give this poor transit system some money!
