Each of the Sixes did their suggestions at the last Meeting, the sandwich filling in the bread of my “fun” activities.

Now I have make them into something to put on the Scout Hut wall for them follow.

And should count towards Module 15 validation.

Swear I’m an inch taller after my Investiture.

The Cub Leader got the 4 Sixers to read a line or so each of my chosen variation of The Scout Promise, which I repeated back whilst doing the Scout Sign. And then I shook hands with the Cub Leader.

Very special.

And so I’m an Assistant Cub Scout Leader proper now. 😊

(One of the most outgoing Cubs came over to congratulate me. They are going to be quite the Sixer when it’s their turn. 😀 )

Will today be the Wooiest (technical term) Wednesday ever?

It could be the last in the current format as I may have to change the rest for career change reasons.

It’s my first Cubs Meeting as an Assistant Cub Scout Leader tonight.

The original plan was my Investiture would be Week 4, as we have something special planned, and will also invest some Cubs. However the Cub Leader and I together decided to move mine forward.

Do any of you use the Activities/Games on the Scouts UK website regularly?

I want to have something extra for Welcoming new Cubs just in case there’s a gap. Key word searches aren’t the best, and neither are the Filters on the Scouts UK website.

I’ve got a few things in mind from there and other sources already, but I’d rather be overprepared.

Was reading about a game for #Cubs last night, for the first night of term, a getting to know each other type of game, and I couldn’t think of a suitable alliterative word to go with my First Name! (The Leaders are meant to play too.) My mind was completely blank.

Even this morning, nothing. I actually had to look up a list of adjectives to kickstart my brain! Funnily enough, I came up with one that wasn’t on the list, so that worked.😆

The Cubs Leadership Team is clearly on the same wavelength. I’m not surprised, but it’s nice to know. Same priorities & logic. I suggested we do the Scottish Thistle Award as it has activities we’d done, or are liable to repeat & it got a very positive response. We’re planning on doing JOTI for one thing. Works multiple Awards at once in some instances, as there’s overlap with UK Awards criteria, some activities we’ve got lined up qualify for 2 Awards.

Well that was fun! Not necessarily a phrase everyone will associate with the phrase “Term Planning Meeting”, but it was.

Hopefully will be for the #Cubs too. I’m pretty sure they’ll enjoy it. Well except for my investiture. 🤡 Not that it’s Week 1, it’s down for Week 4, we’ll invest some Cubs at the same time AND we get to do it in a great location. 🏰

As a child, I never went to Cubs or Scouts.

In fact, my first exposure to Scouting was when my eldest son (now 23) joined Cubs when he was 8.

I was convinced to go along to help at the annual camp. That help was actually as part of the kitchen crew; preparing meals and snacks for over 100 young people and adults.

I have to admit it was hard work, but also very rewarding.

There’s a chance the Cubs term planning meeting may be tomorrow so I’m going to try and fit in some prep today.

Will be nice to know what’s happening in advance. Mostly been knowing the theme and getting assigned or choosing something from a selection on the night so far.

I can step things up a level or two now I’m properly onboard and can prepare better.

I’ve just created my first database in Notion.

The main reason was to teach myself Notion!

Actually, it’s a number of linked tables for managing the budget for planning camp, and I nearly gave up; but I’m quite proud of myself!!

I think there’s lots more I could do to improve it, but for now it works and means I am not reliant on the old one in Google Sheets (which was riddled with formulae)!

This afternoon’s resumption of the regular Mondays junior tennis was amusingly 50% Cubs*.😀

For those of you who might have been thinking “tennis is an obvious activity for you to do at Cubs as a new Assistant Leader”. Actually I wouldn’t suggest it for our Cubs.

Why? Well they’re part of the age group at the local school that gets 6 weeks of tennis with our club, the sessions I was helping at, & the club will offer the school it every year.

(*Ok, 1 was a former Cub)

When I noticed the Scouting Smurf badge was at a slightly jaunty angle I decided not to centre the Cubs badge.

I’m pleased overall. I’m not great at sewing but I took my time, taking particular care at the start of each.

It’s the last meeting of the year, this evening. BBQ time.

Fingers crossed the weather holds; the forecast suggests it might just be dry!

We’ll be sending a couple of Cubs up to Scouts (? See previous post) and we’ll give out all the outstanding badges earned.

It’s been a good year, but I’m ready for a rest.
