To go deeper with regression the scaffolding can be simple linear; then multivariate; then interactions, fixed effects, random effects, splines; then logistic, poisson, polynomial; then ridge, lasso, etc. Not sure any of this is core #DH curriculum, but it should be for #culturalanalytics

A community may have have identifiable preferences in music, but the relative popularity of different songs doesn't tell you much about that underlying preference. And the case is more acute when listeners *know* about each song's popularity in advance.
Taking this at face value, what does it mean for #LitStudies and #CulturalAnalytics?
Are we confined to study only the observed popularity of texts? How might we learn about the underlying preferences of a community?
