I am reminded today of a story I heard from an Israeli-American friend.

He'd been here for years when his father's family moved to the US. they invited new friends for Thanksgiving dinner. They went full-on and made a gigantic traditional dinner--turkey with trimmings, sides, desserts--the whole Megillah, as it were.

They called my friend, furious that they had done so much work, and their guests hadn't shown up.

Thing was, it was Wednesday night.
