As a bit of background (should you be so interested), @fencepost as well, I hold Iain M. Banks' #CultureSeries as some of my absolute favorites (though not all were winners).

Other series I have read include John Scalzi's "Old Man's War", Alastair Reynolds' "Revenger" & "Revelation Space", Yoon Ha Lee's "The Machineries of Empire", Becky Chambers' "Wayfarers", Dan Simmons' "Hyperion".

Looking over my lists there are quite a few others (Expanse, Ringworld, etc.) but I don't need to reiterate my entire goodreads list here.

I call my preference as "Space Opera" however that may be a misnomer. Most of those series have a similar, space opera-esque vibe, though they may not all be space opera series. Guess that's really the nature of reading however, one book may pull us in and another in the same vein is distinctly 'meh'.

I finished book 11 of the #HonorHarrington series and decided to take a breather with #Murderbot per @silverjam's positive review.

I like the Honor series but not a supreme amount. However I decided to read it as a stopgap since I couldn't find and #SpaceOpera series that I hadn't read or wanted to and nothing so far has lived up to #iainmbanks' #CultureSeries, RIP.

MURDERBOT Is just what I needed, the entire series is under the page count of a single Honor book, so it's a real quick burn.

I wish someone, ANYONE had explained to #HenryCavil that a #warhammer40000 #Series is NOT what the world needs right now.

We need a #CultureSeries, er, series, or a new #StarTrekTheNextGeneration. We need something that will inspire #Hope, NOT #deplorables.

My ideal escapist science fiction lies somewhere in the intersection between:

- @GreatDismal's #ThePeripheral (both book and show ... how often does that happen?!)
- Effinger's "When Gravity Fails"
- Ian M. Banks' "Player of Games" #CultureSeries
