Day 17:

The Arch sits on the lonely edge of the . It stands in position so that through the season the sun will always set directly between it. No one knows who maintains it or who originally built it, only that it has been there for as long as anyone can remember.

It is built from driftwood, that is skilfully bound together with rope and wooden pegs. Mysteriously being repaired every summer by the Unknown Crafter (as they are known).

It is said to be used by those who are of the cunning to commune with the Somewhen. They hold parle and present offerings to placate the shades and spectres of the other place. For it is known that the growing of the darkness gives these creature a better hold in the world of things.

Many people have said, when they casually pass through the arch, that is feels like they have passed through something ethereal. Yet others report a sense of dread just be being within a stride of this curious wooden passage.

Day 16:

Wisdom of the Darkness

At this time of the year, (The Day of the Moon) has a special significance; the shorter the days, the longer the night and in comes the domain of Monē. He is the light that shows us the way until the morning light that colours the darkness with light.

The say "When we point a light in down a well it only shines a lamp on the darkness beneath. Do not let these tiny, worthless baubles pollute the renewal that comes with Yuletide."

For the Yule is linked both with the night and with the shining embrace of the moon. Yet without the darkness to illuminate, there is not beacon of hope to draw us forward.

Day 11:

The Show of Lights

Shades and souls roam far and wide,
In the darkness of the Advent-tide,
Light the candles and set the guards,
Call the spectres to the bone yards.

Close the gates and lock the doors,
Show the lights for you and yours,
To the graves where they rest,
Sleep for all, the souls and blessed.

On this night the would light candles in yards to bring home who had been wondering far from home. It is time for them to rest once more, as the nights grow longer and longer.

Let the and spectres sleep, let them find some rest; their dirt bed call, but their hauntings try to keep them close.

The Show of Lights continued until the

Day 5:

The Dropping Rock Spring and is one of those mysterious and ancient places that hide away on the . The of the island believe it received its name because was one of the places where the ancient was dismantled. The stones were worked and turned into the well and the Dropping Rock arch.

They say that it was in the deepest and darkest time of the year that works started to dismantle the Devil Stone. As they lay the rocks in formation and they touched the holy water, each stone screamed as the water bound the evil within.

Dropping, and dropping, through fern and through heather,
E'en in the summer noon's sultriest weather;
Still the hard rock is its water bestowing,
Where the rank weeds germ, and the rushes are growing.

Gently and evenly falls the clear shower,
The work of a mighty, invisible power;
Streaming not, running not—dropping alone,
Through the centuries past, and the long ages flown. -- The Vecta Garland 1860

Redux:

This is , when the old people would gather for their early and place strange ornaments along the coast. These were and still are important to keep the Sea from unleashing her anger.

They use these and that bring those rays of light on an otherwise angry ocean.

The eerie trespass of the Swaailen makes its way over the Island; it lifts itself from the sea in ribbons of white and grey. As it makes its way over the towns and villages, the know that the Somewhen is deep within.

People still hold those charms & protections that will keep safe. For no-one wishes to be waylaid by that mysterious other place: when you come out you can’t be sure when or where you may end up.
