orrrrr Alterrrr #mdrza jetzt pisst das schonwieder; wollte heute eigentlich nicht nur HO machen.
Naja, gibt's noch'n Clip. #curiousmarc liest was auf deutsch.
New hardware hacking video from #CuriousMarc about 8" floppies (and an IBM prototype 4" floppy), comparing the physical and magnetic differences between a few different 8" diskette formats.
There is a brief mention of the #ApplesauceFDC hardware (brief because it can easily read one of the more well-known 8" floppy formats). The more obscure formats required custom controller boards and logic analyzer traces, just to find the physical location of track zero.

One of my local buddies, #CuriousMarc , has a pretty cool channel on YouTube
Though he has a nice lab at his home, he sometimes visits the #ComputerHistoryMuseum as he does in this wonderful piece:
Lyle Bickley explains the PDP-1 (and we play the original Spacewar!)

Check out the new #CuriousMarc video where the team gets the Soyuz "Globus" Mechanical Navigation Computer running.
It required reverse engineering work on both the mechanism and the electronics. That latter was done by @kenshirriff

Not long ago beautiful pictures of the #Soyus spaceship Globe-Position-Instrument circulated around the Fediverse.
The video channel #CuriousMarc got the opportunity to repair a slightly broken one. In this episode he also explains the functions and meaning of the instruments displays, dials and switches.
Check out the guts of a #Soyuz mechanical navigation computer thought to be from the The Apollo-Soyuz Test Project. Apparently this style of nav computer was still used until ~2001.
It's an amazing piece of machinery which you can see for yourself on the #CuriousMarc channel, and read about in detail on Ken Shirriff's blog (@kenshirriff).

Soooo
I suggest for everyone this video, it is such a nice a wholesome video. And it also shows us why keeping older technology alive is important. Also why we should practice proper archiving and try to keep our data (now days mostly files) up to date and in a format that we hope will be readable in the future.

Really nice 27 Minutes through telephone switching history + Unix lightly touched ; from Connections Museum Seattle #curiousmarc
I now want a #CuriousMarc breakdown of the transmitters and cameras #artemis is using to send us this 480p video of the Earth. 😒
If you haven't seen it, Marc and company got the original #Apollo transmitter / receiver working again. https://www.youtube.com/c/CuriousMarc
