There are five so-called "#garbage #patches" in the earth's oceans – areas where #currents concentrate surface and near-surface #trash (particularly #plastics).

Obligate #neustonic #organisms – #animals and #plants that must live at or very near the ocean surface – also concentrate in those locations.

So what does that mean for the #ecology of this unique #biotic #community?

Imagine with me if you will you live in a mansion. Cool huh? Now imagine both ends of the mansion have air conditioners on permanent full blast, and there is a heater in the middle also on permanent full blast, but its not an issue as you have fans that also blow constantly evening out the overall T. You are good to go, until that fan goes out. THAT is what will happen WHEN (not if, we are headed to this within my lifetime, and I am one old tired bitch) the ocean currents shut off due to global warming.
