Stewart begint te drummen vanaf zijn 12de jaar, als hij in Beiroet aan de American community school les volgt. En is al snel de vaste drummer tijdens schoolvoorstellingen.
In 1967 verhuist Stewart naar Londen en na afstuderen gaat hij aan Berkley University muziek studeren.
Zijn oudste broer, #MilesCopelandIII richt IRS records op. Stewart keert in 1974 terug naar Londen en werkt als roadmanager en drummer bij de band #CurvedAir, al

#grenzwellen #70er #progressiverock #vivaldi lieferte ein Filetstück für #curvedair . #Airwaves wollte ich immer schon für meine Grenzwellen vorbringen. Extrem könnte , sollte man diese Verquickung von Rock und Klassik nennen. Hab ich früher bei Deep Purple und John Lord kennengelernt.

Great Albums - 1970s: #CurvedAir – #SecondAlbum (1971). This prog outlier had a gothic jazz feel owing to Francis Monkman’s driving keyboards, Darryl Way’s Ponty-esque violin, and Sonja Kristina’s haunting vocals. Kristina, one of the few prog frontwomen, lends her sultry thunder to “Back Street Luv” (a minor hit). Her unhinged delivery on “Piece of Mind” (the obligatory epic) emphasizes the house of mirrors fright factor in the music.
