Building an EV generates several tons of emissions. You save emissions while driving - but it takes a while to just break even on emissions (depending on mileage and how your electric is generated).
Cutting your mileage with your existing vehicle, by e.g getting an electric bike or a cargo bike avoids the big up front emissions of the EV. It could be a pragmatic way to cut emissions if someone is not ready to just ditch the car.
Electric bikes could be an easy switch too for a two car family wanting to ditch one.
