Day 167/250 to 173/250: It was a slow practice week. The progress is not great but I believe any practice is better than no practice. Average time spent on lessons: 35 minutes. #CW100days
Day 160/250 to 166/250: In the last week, I had completed lesson 25 and 26. With the current lesson, I now have 3 numbers to learn. I’m trying to keep each practice session to 30 minutes maximum because anymore and my brain melts in dits and dahs. The 250th day is just 3 months away :) Average time spent on lessons: 40 minutes. #CW100days
Day 153/250 to 159/250: In the last week, I had completed lesson 22, 23 and 24. I took my time with each practice session. This is hard !! Average time spent on lessons: 38 minutes. #CW100days
Day 146/250 to 152/250: In the last week, I had completed lesson 21. The pace was slow this week because I wanted to keep learning rather than burnout after more than 150 days of daily practice. What will the next week bring? Average time spent on lessons: 31 minutes. #CW100days
Day 139/250 to 145/250: In the last week, I had completed lesson 20. I noticed that after lesson 20, the practice lessons are getting harder. I’m sticking with the 20/10 speed because it is not an issue with the speed but rather the recognition of the letters. It could also be that I’m distracted by the family on a holiday. Onwards to another week of learning. Average time spent on lessons: 23 minutes. #CW100days
@f4iha Parler de ses progrès et de ses difficultés avec d'autres, c'est bien mieux que de galérer tout seul - et ça évite de se décourager trop vite.
L'initiateur de #cw100days est @F1RUM.
À ma connaissance, il ne participe pas. Life, etc... 😀
Je me sus inscrit sur mastodon.radio juste à ce moment là, spécifiquement à cause de ce challenge, juste après avoir reçu ma licence dans la boîte aux lettres (en mars de cette année).
(Jusque-là, j'avais soigneusement évité les réseaux sociaux !!)

In fact, I didn't work much @20WPM for 2 month, as I was aiming at a certain level of proficiency at a reasonable QSO speed for a beginner, 12WPM (later 15WPM).
But apparently, 20WPM is well ingrained in my brain now !
12WPM is really slow, I dont' like that speed that much.
For me, 15WPM begins to be more "words" and less aggregated letters.
But with QSB and QRM, it's very different : 12WPM is much, much easier to copy.
As predicted by Shannon's information theory ! 😀
#CW100days
Went to the supermarket with my headphones and DITTO CW, as usual.
15WPM, then switched to 18WPM.
18WPM was not great.
Quickly switched to 20WPM and it was suddenly easier. Just like releasing the parking brake.
Go figure...
I my recent (1.5 month) workouts:
12WPM : OK, but is like copying "in slow motion".
14WPM : very uncomfortable
15WPM : OK
18WPM : not great
20WPM : OK (except when I suddenly loose track ! ).
The dividends of tons of work @20WPM since 4/5 month ?
#cw100days update
Yesterday, DITTOCW on my phone.
Lasted 3 minutes : suddenly got bored to death.
But copied everything during this time span ! 😆
Day 132/250 to 138/250: In this week, I had only completed lesson 19. I had been stuck on lesson 20 because I kept mishearing the letters and making mistakes. I do not know where the problem is but I need to find the root cause for the same before starting practice again tomorrow. Hopefully the next week will be good for me. Average time spent on lessons: 22 minutes. #CW100days
Have any of my #CW100Days compatriots gotten on the air lately?
It helps.
A lot!
I promise it's not bad! OPs are patient and friendly and helpful.
Get on the air!
#cw100days update
Less Morse workout recently : too hot ! (Temp went down today in the French Alps).
During the last week, depending on days, I switched between callsigns lists and non-QSO English parts of phrases.
Always head copying @15WPM.
This set of English phrases (in DITTO CW Android App) is still "ham related" but much more general, withe a wider vocabulary.
I was beginning to know by heart the other exercices...
Day 118/250 to 124/250: At 14/12, I was able to comfortably complete 5 lessons - 15 to 19. When I discussed my CW progress in yesterday’s NSWLC CW Clinic, @eamoEI7LC advised that I should TRY to increase my letter speed to 15 or 20, but keep the letter space speed to 10 or 12 or even 5 if that helps. The plan is to now learn at 20/12 continuing from lesson 20. If I struggle, I will restart from lesson 1 at the new speed. CW forever. Average time spent on lessons: 28 minutes. #CW100days
@vk6flab Interesting take on CW that I didn’t know. A good episode to listen to. #CW100days
Day 111/250 to 117/250: I had planned to continue on 14/14, complete few lessons and then move to the required 15/15. I struggle with the speed of the letters in the block and miss one or more letters every time. Based on a direction from a recent CW Clinic, I might look to drop the speed between the letters. I might give 14/12 a try and see if that works for the coming week. Onwards to the next learning week. Average time spent on lessons: 22 minutes. #CW100days
@stoneymonster
Welcome to the club !
The sound, or the "music" of the Morse code changes dramatically with speed.
I can't tell you what is the best for you, as I'm also learning the Code.
But I've always mixed speeds to "unlock" my ability to head copy.
For #cw100days, I worked a lot @16WPM on LCWO,, and @20WPM on the CW DITTO App (16WPM because I couldn't type fast enough).
Then slowed down to 12-15WPM, as it will be the speed of my first QSOs.
Required some brain "recalibration" !
I haven't been keeping up here, but daily practice this week:
- MorseMachine 20 wpm
- Code Groups 15 wpm
- ARRL Practice File 10 wpm
Keeping up the work!
Day 104/250 to 110/250: Getting accustomed to the 14/14 speed. It was a challenge with the new speed and since I knew what the letters sounded, I was able to clear from lesson 1 to 14 in 7 days. Onwards to the next 7 days. Average time spent on lessons: 25 minutes. #CW100days
I 've seen several Morsle mentions in the recent posts.
So I had a little try again and was quite surprised by the outcome...
Wow ! Not bad for a Morse apprentice !
Obviously, the letter-by-letter repeat process in Morsle is absolutely not representative of a real #cw copy, but still, 40WPM is seriously fast.
