Lots of new people, so an updated #introduction

I use this #Cyberplace regularly to publish my own photos. Recently made or rediscovered. I enjoy the likes, especially the boosts. Most of all, I love it when your work shows up on my timeline! 😘

I started #photography in 1982 and never stopped. After Minolta, Konica and Sony, it's been Google Pixel for a few years now. I use Lightroom for post processing and am known to go a bit crazy with one or the other setting (where necessary) 😇

@GossiTheDog My Mastodon experience so far (1 year online, since Nov 2022 here on #Cyberplace). I post on average 1-2 times a day. Mostly #Photography. I "interact" via likes and an occasional boost. The ratio of posts to followers has been pretty much 1 to 1 for a long time. Right now I have exactly one for every day of the year. So people, please stop following me. I might want to start following you too, and my Home, Local and Fedatered timeline is already full enough. Sorry ;-)

Weird. #cyberplace keeps crashing my #Tusker app when I try to check notifications. This doesnt happen on my other account on another server. Seems to be this account / server specific. Tried logging out and back in but still happens. Perhaps this server has some configs Tusker does not like

Mastodon has hit around 10m accounts today.

Monthly active users (defined by accounts who access Mastodon during the month at least once) is 1.2m, which ties into what I see at #cyberplace - the 4 month retention is 11% here.

My Mastodon instance #cyberplace has a better uptime and response time than birdsite. Running 4.1 now, too.

I know Mastodon is a legit social media platform as the cryptocurrency grifters are turning up (and being banned from) #cyberplace.

I expect Mastodon active user numbers to plummet in the coming week. Here's #cyberplace, the last big surge was when Elmo blocked Mastodon links - since then it's been in decline, I suspect people went back.

Good from my point of view as it makes instance admin easier.

Boring Mastodon security thing - make sure you enable MFA, that all your instance administrators and mods have MFA and that they’re on the latest version (4.0.2).

Why? If you or an admin/mod deletes your account, it’s instant and gone. Even if the entire instance was restored from backup (unlikely 🤣) your account would still be hosed as every other instance would flag it deleted.

For transparency #cyberplace admin is MFA’d with hardware token.
