#cycled to the mill today. Saw 6 white #herons and 5 blue ones on the way to the mill. One #buzzard and 3 #cormorants. About the same when i returned

Strikingly, people who #cycled on a daily basis had 84% lower #carbon emissions from all their daily travel than those who didn’t.

We also found that the average person who shifted from car to #bike for just one day a week cut their carbon footprint by 3.2kg of CO₂ – equivalent to the emissions from driving a car for 10km, eating a serving of lamb or chocolate, or sending 800 emails.

I #cycled way too much today. About 38km? I am #pooped!

As today’s a holiday, we #cycled along the western side of the #ExeEstuary. As it’s only accessible to #cyclists and #pedestrians, it’s a lot cleaner and quieter than in town. It therefore is a great place to see #flora and #fauna, particularly #birds. I’ll be several images of today’s excursion but to start off with, here’s one with a #stonehatch as the subject and a couple of cyclists approaching.

The other day I experienced the audio #DopplerEffect of a stationary emergency vehicle siren as I #cycled past it. Everyone has experienced a speeding ambulance or police car with its siren going off and its changing pitch as it goes past them but it was interesting to experience it in the alternative frame of reference. Not that I was going all that fast and so I was particularly surprised to notice the pitch go from high to low.

Today I #cycled to the #WellingtonMonument in #Somerset and back. This was my first #trans-county trip by #bicycle and the total journey length turned out to be 82 km (that’s a record for me). There are a lot of undulations in #Devon and Somerset and so it was more than a matter of negotiating gentle gradients and in one place I had to get off my #bike and walk uphill. I’m bit sore but overall feeling that it was a worthwhile trip.

#Cycled over 60km today in a tour from #Okehampton railway station, to #Northlew, #BrattonClovelly, #Lydford, #MeldonDam and then back to to Okehampton on a beautiful #summer's day in #Devon. Perhaps a little too hot but still worth doing. There were several steep uphill climbs (for me) with my #hybrid #bike in its lowest gear! but I’m still in one piece. I’m glad tomorrow’s a bank #holiday :-)
