Great to see initiatives underway to help Te Rawhiti recover.

“Months after Cyclone Gabrielle smashed Tairāwhiti [Gisborne, New Zealand], locals are still cleaning up the damage. The Side Eye travels to the erosion-prone region to meet the people asking hard questions about a plan for the future…”

“However, in northern Hawke’s Bay, exotic forestry was less effective than expected (60 percent), while indigenous forest maintained normal reduction (90 percent). In the Gisborne coastal hill country exotic forestry was ineffective at reducing landslide probability, with indigenous forest having only a moderate reduction (50 percent).”

I shopped yesterday. My local supermarket is out of stock of regular items like vegan pies. Staff say supply chains have been broken since #CycloneGabrielle and rod damage. Disruption to ordinary lives from #ExtremeWeather is likely to be an ongoing issue.
Good to see growth of #UrbanFarms #allotments in Aotearoa New Zealand. Hope this flows into #CircularEconomy and community sharing. Some people could offer skills in exchange for food or just give and hope for gifts too, Like #TimeBank

@davidgarywood @tootsdk I’ve just checked my followers, and they are a few accounts that haven’t posted in a few weeks, especially one of them who was replicating posts from Twitter during #CycloneGabrielle
My afternoon is feeling very empty right now. #TodayFM kept me calm during #CycloneGabrielle, keeping me updated all night and all day. https://youtube.com/watch?v=rY4Z7wCxxBE&feature=share

Cyclone Gabrielle: The New Zealand flood victims too scared to go home
@donkey @JonathanMosen I hope it does get off the ground getting government in the department and parties on #Mastodon. I was so thankful and grateful to @explorergrace keeping me updated during #CycloneGabrielle.

This look at the devastating cost and carnage caused by forestry #Slash by John Campbell only confirms my belief that all timber grown in NZ should be milled in New Zealand. Also a timely reminder to beware the allure of foreign investors. #NZPol #CycloneGabrielle
